Necessity is the mother of all invention, and such is also true for the origins of the famous Herbal Medicated Oil that started it all. Back in 1924, when Madam Ooi arrived on the shores of Malaya, little did she know that she would start a nationwide remedy empire.

With roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Madam Ooi came up with a recipe for a baby-safe medicated oil in her humble kampung in Penang after realising that the people there were too poor to take their sick children to see a doctor. Fondly referred to by the villagers as ‘Ka Chow Chim’, Madam Ooi further improved her formula with local Malaysian herbs and continued serving her community for as long as she lived. In 1957, her son saw an opportunity to turn the successful formula into a booming business that eventually became a household name in Malaysia.

As of now, Hong Yang Hoo TYT has nearly 10 different herbal products, mostly catering specifically to new mothers as they go through the stages of pregnancy, confinement, and parenthood. The Herbal Medicated Oil is still our top-selling flagship product, but we have since expanded to baby herbal baths, confinement herbal baths, confinement herbal soups, herbal footbaths, herbal ginger drinks, and more.
