CIIE Shanghai 2020

Thursday, 05 November 2020

The China International Import Expo (CIIE) is a trade fair held in autumn annually since 2018 in Shanghai, China. It is the world's first import-themed national-level expo. The import expo has the purpose of promoting the Chinese domestic market to foreign companies, and to boost domestic consumption.

The CIIE is also a chance for China to show other countries that there is market for overseas products within the country. Businesses can showcase their products, which provides great exposure for foreign businesses wanting to break into the China market.

When the CIIE first launched in 2018, the expo had over 800,000 visitors and 3,617 enterprises from 151 countries, regions and international organizations. Many high-profile leaders and top officials from around the world also attended the event, such as Alibaba’s Jack Ma, Microsoft’s Bill Gates and Xiaomi’s Lei Jun.

Industries and product categories at the show includes food and agricultural products, consumer electronics and home appliances, apparel, fashion and daily consumer goods, medical devices and equipment, high-end intelligent equipment, automotive products, tourism, business services, education and creative design.

Digital exhibitions have become an important complement to offline exhibitions. There is an accelerated shift from offline to digital exhibitions, and many exhibitions in China have combined both to help Chinese and overseas companies better expand their international trade channels.
